Character Name: Charles Dunois/Charlotte Dunois
Source Canon: Infinite Stratos
Community Tag: Char_Dunois
Notes: With the whole reverse trap business comes some confusion regarding Charlotte's name. I will refer to her as Char for this app, but in-character it's best to call her Charles and later Charlotte.
Background:
This show really doesn't like happy families Just replace any instances of "France" with "Neo-France" and we're good to go.
Personality:
Char is a kind and understanding person. This sets her apart from the other IS characters-she is not a Tsundere, not at all. When the other girls are jumping for Ichika's blood, she's more likely to hang back and go "Wait, maybe this isn't what it looks like..." and give him a second chance.
Char is also shown to be a bro (sisbro?), as she works pretty hard to make sure everyone gets along and lives happily ever after. In combat, she's an excellent wingman, and her piloting style is focused on distracting foes and defending allies. She puts quite a bit of effort into getting Laura to adjust to civilian society, because that's the sort of thing friends do.
While Char is the nicest of the heroines in IS, she keeps her smile even when threatening Ichika. It's not that she is devoid of a cruel streak; she is just very, very good at supressing and hiding it. It shows up rarely, but is rather scary when it does.
The whole disguise thing is shown to cause Char no small amount of misery; she considers herself a girl, and a very normal girl at that. Being constantly fawned over as a guy causes her some discomfort, which is usually played for comedy. Given that she will almost certainly have other girls hitting on her in UG@, this is going to cause some conflicts between her desire to keep everyone happy and her desire to not be someone she's not forever. It doesn't help that plot events mean Char will have to keep up the charade for months.
Char seems to have a fascination of sorts with military technology; when she makes a promise with Ichika, instead of "Cross my heart and hope to die" or something like that it's "Whoever breaks it has to eat a cluster bomb". This is probably a holdover from the military training she had to get a crash course in, and another more comedic trait. Expect it to show up rarely.
Lastly, Char has something of a perverted streak, by anime female standards. That is to say, occasionally she wishes her dreams about Ichika would have erotic content, then is immediately embarrassed. This will totally be relevant, I swear.
Capabilities and Resources: Char is really, really good at combat, even without her IS. The novels refer to her as being inferior to Laura in this area, but she's still good enough to defuse a suicide bomber with bullets.
Without harming the bomber.
Or aiming.
The full explanation is that as a representative candidate, she was given training in any possible combat situation, even those without IS, just in case. The usefulness of this training is somewhat mitigated by the fact that she can partially summon her IS with a thought, but it'll come in handy if she ever needs to organize defence against a siege or kick someone's ass with her bare hands.
Additionally, Char is capable of perfectly hiding her breasts under even skintight clothes, and changing in the blink of an eye. While this does make passing for a male easier, it does
not mean she is good at playing the role.
Robot Name:
Rafale Revive Custom IIRobot Description: The Rafale Revive Custom is the only personal IS from the 2nd generation. It's more akin to an Ace Custom than a Super Prototype, and it lacks the beam weapons that all the other personal machines seem to have. It does have two big things setting it apart from the crowd, though: its weapons and its pilot.
The Rafale Revive Custom has over 20 expansion slots for weapons, making it one of the most heavily armed of the IS units. For reference, Shenlong and Blue Tears have 5-8 expansion slots.
Char herself is the other main factor; she is easily the most skilled of the student IS pilots (Tatenashi doesn't count) and is capable of using the ability "Rapid Switch". With it, she can change weapons in a split second without calling her attacks, which coupled with the RRC's massive arsenal allows her to easily fight at all ranges. Guns reload when de-summoned as well, so Char can reload, draw a new weapon, and shoot all in one action.
Terrain Stats:
Land: A
Air: A
Sea: D
Space: B
Upgrades: A defensive packet called Guardian Curtain, which adds extra physical shields and energy shields to the Rafale Revive Custom. It's enough extra defence that Char was the designated Meatshield of the Silver Gospel mission. It's not a permanent upgrade, and can be removed before missions if so desired.
Additionally, the Rafale Revive Custom has around 12 unused slots for weapons (counting duplicates). These will be filled through the game, either with
normal military equipment or weapons found aboard the White Chalice. Char will be unable to copy energy weapons, though.
One of the weapons she copies
will be the Shark Launcher.
It's also mentioned within the novels that military IS do not have the same limiters on their operational time the Academy's sport-use models do; since this is a war for survival, Char will have those limits on the Rafale Revive Custom removed at the first available opportunity. The limiters are rather weird in the novel, but the best I can figure is that they take time to remove, and will be taken off after Char joins the White Chalice.
